[Thoughts] 2008 Begins

So. 2007 and I have had what you might call a love-hate relationship. There have been a lot of really good moments and a lot of really awful moments. Times when I felt on top of the world and times when I felt like hiding under the sheets. I know, I know, you're probably thinking, "And, Shay, this is different from every other year everyone else has ever had because...?" But looking over the past year, the contrast is really noticeable to me. I've ranged all around from extremely happy through apathetic to utterly miserable. And taken as a whole, I'd rate 2007 as a success rather than a failure -- but not by a whole lot.

Anyway, the point is this: I'm going to be making a solid effort to make 2008 a better year, in every possible way. I'm making resolutions -- not the super-strict rules you "break" in a week, but guidelines for the year to come. the_gneech happened to phrase it quite well this morning: "A resolution, when done properly, is a goal to be met... a statement of intent, a roadmap for where you plan to focus your energies in the upcoming year." Sounds like a good idea to me. If I'd had a better idea of where I was trying to go, 2007 might not have been such a jumble.

Rather than list my resolutions all at once and because I haven't figured them all out yet, ahahaha, I think I'll share them one or more at a time, as we start into the new year. This will dovetail nicely, in fact, with the first that comes to mind:

1) I will be more active on my personal journal. Posting regularly, responding to comments, posting comments on other people's posts... I'm going to aim for at least a post a day, but if I slip, I won't beat myself up. And I'd like to start doing birthday posts like a lot of people do. I did that for a little while, but it petered out swiftly.

Well, there's plenty more I could talk about, but it's getting late, so I think I'll turn in for the night. (An early shift tomorrow, and I have to ride my bike, as the buses aren't running.) Happy new year, everyone.
