The Life, Times, Thoughts, and Works of a Creative Young Man
[Life] Books and Hearts

Mmmm, Amazon.com. I ordered these books on Christmas day, after my aunt and uncle sent me a $20 gift certificate, and they just came tonight! Took them a while, but it was worth the wait. I got:

  • Terry Pratchett goodness -- Unadulterated Cat, the Bromeliad trilogy (man, that's a big book), and Paul Kidby's Art of Discworld. Sorry, I think I got fanboy all over the place.
  • Patricia Wrede's Mairelon the Magician and Magician's Ward. I read those back in high school and loved them, but now I finally own them! (Already have the Enchanted Forest Chronicles, of course.)
  • The Ordinary Princess, by M.M. Kaye. Wonderful book, very underrated. Picked it up at the library years ago and enjoyed it a lot. (Someone on my friends list has squeed over this book in the past. Who was it? *bad memory*)

There may have been some other stuff I wanted to write about; I can't quite remember. But what I do remember is, Valentine's Day!

I'm completely and utterly single at the moment, but I don't mind Valentine's Day one bit. It's mainly because I'm in no hurry to jump into a relationship. I mean, if a certain woman I'm currently crushing on told me she liked me too, of course I'd be thrilled, but I don't see that happening any time soon. But I'm an optimistic guy. I don't believe in soulmates or love at first sight or anything, but I do believe that I will experience a happy and lasting romance someday. And since I'm so certain it'll happen sooner or later, I see no reason to make myself unhappy that it hasn't yet.

But anyway, I know some of my friends are dreading the upcoming holiday. So let me brighten it a bit by sending you a valentine! If you're reading this, I like you. And I want to send you something for Valentine's Day. So please either e-mail me or comment to this post (all comments will be screened, and I won't unscreen anything with private info in it) with an address to which something can be mailed! Thanks! *grin*

The Ordinary Princess?? I squee over it! I'm so glad someone else actually knows what that book is; every time I mention it, all I get are blank looks. Is it back in print? Last I looked, it was out of print.

*grin* What I have in my hand right now is a shiny new paperback. According to its page on Amazon.com, it was reprinted in 2002. (And an excellent price, besides -- $5.39! So worth it.)

Oh god, I am going to enjoy this book so much more this time around. It was years ago I first read it, and I'd never even heard of Mary Sues... One of Amy's names is "Araminta"! *dead of laughter*

A friend gave a paperback version to me for my birthday once; it was the best present ever! I didn't even think of the Mary Sue connection, but I once wanted to write an english paper on it. Unfortunately, it was beyond the scope of what I could accomplish in the time that I had.

I love Patricia C. Wrede... the Enchanted Forest Chronicles entertained me to no end during high school. I need to get me hands on a set of them!!

I adore the Mairelon books. Have you read Sorcery and Cecelia; or the Enchanted Chocolate Pot and its sequel The Grand Tour, by Wrede and partner-in-crime Caroline Stevermer, yet?

You're the coolest guy, seriously. I wish I'd had a pal like you around in high school. I hope you have a great day today.

And this is gonna sound weird but I want to make you an icon, I just need you to send me a blank textless version of the "happy" one. There's a mood you're missing that you should have.

Hee hee, thanks. ^_^ I wish I'd been around to hang out with you in high school.

I'm alternately worried and intrigued by your icon-making plot. Here's the textless version:

About the Ordinary Princess: (MAYBE) IT WAS ME!!! I read that book when I was seven and have treasured it ever since. I'm glad I read it at that young age, too, because boy did I need it in later years. Love it.
