[Life] Disconnected

Well, folks, my computer's dead. I'm writing this from a computer lab on campus. I've managed to back up all of my important files, but after I formatted the hard drive, Windows refused to reinstall, so what I've got is basically a $2000 paperweight until I can get it to stop being a prat.

Bottom line is, updates will be even more erratic than they were previously, until I can get my computer working again. (If anyone wants to buy me a nice Dell desktop for my birthday... *wink* Kidding, of course.) I'll see if I can't get some chores and some drawing done while I'm disconnected.

Later!

Edit: I wrote the above yesterday, right before work. (I worked from 5 to 12 last night, then from 10 to 6 today. AAUGH AM DEAD.) The computer's still dead, as far as I know. I put together a nice Dell computer for $657; if I managed to talk my parents into lending me a few hundred, I could actually buy it now. I dunno, we'll see. At any rate, still in a computer lab, updates will still be super-erratic.

As someone who just went through the same thing a few days ago, I totally sympathize with your plight. Best of luck hitting up your parents. :-)

Thanks for the good thoughts. ^_^ If all goes well, Dad will be ordering it for me tomorrow.

(By the way, that's an awesome icon. *grin* Will have to dig up the sprite-Bill graphic I found a while back.)

Why exactly won't Windows reinstall? Is the hard drive messed up? You might just replace that.

I hate to suggest stuff you might have already tried, but I hate seeing computers die, and I tend to go to extreme measures to rescusitate them. I can definitely say that as long as the computer beeps or something when you turn it on, it's not completely paperweighted.

Well, I'm not certain what the problem is; I'm going to contact tech support tomorrow. See, we're not talking your standard desktop computer. What I've got is a Compaq Tablet PC. Just like with a laptop, all the parts are scrunched together in one piece of equipment, so it's not easy to swap and test parts.

I managed to reinstall Windows the other night, but I'm still getting the problem where it either blue-screens or freezes before Windows even loads up. So I suspect it is a hardware problem, especially since something different happens every time I turn it on. Hopefully tech support will help me out.

Oh, computer die-off just SUCKS! My sympathies! It has happened to me, and I'm sure to just about every computer user out there. And it always has a way of happening at inconvenient times...

Thanks for the sympathies (and that hilarious icon). ^_^ Yeah, it is inconvenient, but at least I've got the computer lab. And I'm getting more sleep without the Internet to keep me up late... *wink*

Yeah! Especially as your monitor, keyboard, and mouse are, no doubt, absolutely fine. I've found that Macs generally have a much longer lifespan than PCs do, even though I move my computers regularly (once a year for new dorm rooms). And the Mac Mini is, of course, really inobtrusive.

Hee hee, that is cool! I can't see myself switching over to Mac, though. Maybe someday when I've got the extra money I'll get a Mac to run next to my PC. ^_^

Ugh. I hope you *do* manage to get some drawing done while you're finding/saving for a new machine. :)

None yet, but I have some ideas rattling around in my head. *grin*

THERE you are!

I was beginning to worry. *mwah*

Sorry to hear the computer has gone with the yikes.

Thanks for the good thoughts. *grin* I seem to be managing alright. And I may end up with a gaming-capable machine at the end of all this. ^_^

Ugh, that sucks. I can't imagine being without for any real length of time. Hopefully we'll both get along fine. ^_^
