[Thoughts] Dreams and Merchandising
Hello, everyone! I know it's a bit late, but Happy New Year! I've been working on Forrester Labs lately, of course, and now that I have a few days off of work I'll like as not get some stuff done. Right now I'm composing a first post for the Inventor's Log on my site. The Log there is going to be the same as the Log here, pretty much. I wanted a copy of my journal on my personal site, but I also didn't want to abandon LiveJournal. So I'll be making the same posts in both places.

Anyway, like I said, I'm writing a first post for the other Log. It's basically going to be an introductory post, about who I am and what my life's like right now, and you probably know most of that already if you've been reading for more than a few days. So in its place here, I'll be talking about a couple random things.

Had a dream last night that was practically fodder for bad_rpers_suck. I was playing in a tabletop RPG with a few people (although it kinda wavered between IC and OOC), and I was seriously godmoding it. I eventually failed to shoot a gun out of a woman's hand and she got me between the eyes -- which didn't kill me permanently. I was given a sheet of paper with details on it about how my character would return. At first I thought it said "Your character will return in 10d8 minutes to save the day in a dramatic scene" but the text on both sides of the paper changed after I read that. (And yes, contrary to what Batman: TAS has taught us, I am able to read in dreams.)

Now, I have a question for everybody on my list. (Incidentally, thanks so much for answering the web browser poll. I've now got five browsers installed for testing, and Forrester Labs looks good in all of them. ^_^) Last November I made myself a bracelet to wear, inspired by the black-and-white beaded bracelet I made for my Kyo cosplay:

I ended up making three more of them, in various color schemes:

And I've been wearing them ever since. A while back, I had the red-and-black bracelet on at work, and a woman complimented me on it. When I told her I'd made it myself, she said I should consider selling them.

So I put the question to you: is this the kind of thing you might buy? It's basically just wooden beads, painted and strung on transparent cord. I've got some crimping beads that I use to clip the ends together, so they're not just knotted like their first incarnations. If I were doing this, I'd take custom color choices, bead sizes, and cord lengths, and I'd find a way to keep the paint from chipping off so easily (some sort of spray, right?). I can't imagine they'd cost more than maybe $6 and shipping. If you all could give me your opinion on that, I'd be grateful.

Okay! Coming up is my intro post on the other Inventor's Log, and then I'll do that year-in-review meme and an account of the first five days of my new year!

As a maker of maille jewelry, I can tell you that selling your work may be worth it, or it may not. At the moment you seem to have something that's relatively cheap, which vastly increases the chances that you can actually sell it. If you invest too much more time in it, though, and if you properly value your time, you may end up with something that the average person just isn't willing to pay for. In other words, go for it, but don't hold your breath. :)

Also, selling online is incredibly difficult, because there's a glut of jewelry websites and you simply can't compete with them. So don't bother; it's a waste of time. Sell to people you know personally.

Thanks for all the info! That helps a lot. I hadn't really thought about competition. I guess the best thing for me to do is just set up a page for it, so that it's there if people who read the site are interested. I'm not worried about making a living out of it, after all. ^_^

(Speaking of, do you have a page with anything you're selling on it? I looked around your web site a bit, but didn't find anything.)

They're cute. I'd buy one if you used the $6 for something INCREDIBLY FUN. X3

Aw, wish I could reply but it's all no-reply like. That Buffy angst-player sounds.. funny. Not the kind of funny I like in my life, but the kind of funny that is great to chuckle at from a safe distance.

Finally, someone else who saw that episode of Batman. I thought that was so full of sh*t, I read in my dreams all the time.

Oh, hello, by the way. I just saw you friended my comic (madmanslane), thankies =)

Nice to meet you! I found your comic from the webcomics post, of course. I thought the premise was really neat (plus I trust indigoskynet's judgement), and the New Year's week was a lot of fun, so I friended it!

Today's comic (w/the lemonade) especially made me giggle. I had never made the connection between those two things before... ^_^

Gotta love the fanboy icon =)

Oh, yeah. ^_^ I get a lot of use out of it, with as many talented artists, authors, and creators as there are on my friends list.

I only have two userpics, the default one, and this one which I've made yesterday. It just kinda struck me out of nowhere and I figured I could use it. And you have to admit, it's very persuasive ;)
